Senior Health Physics Technicians Jason Beddeson, Christopher Kolb, Chase Lineberry and Justin Nienow, in Environment, Safety and Quality Assurance, were each awarded Gold Spot Awards in March 2016 for displaying outstanding safety and quality assurance initiative.

The team worked to coordinate and develop new operator aids — a set of best practices — for donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE) used in support of the Radiological Protection Program. The team also provided practical training to familiarize staff working in radiologically controlled areas on how to use the operator aids and properly apply and remove PPE.

These efforts have improved radiological worker practices of wearing PPE and removing contaminated PPE after completing tasks. It has also helped decrease the potential spread of radioactive contamination and improved situational awareness while working in radiologically controlled areas.

Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).

If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting a Spot Award (ANL-758).

The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.

Additional information about the Spot Award program is available on Inside Argonne.
