On December 9, 2016, Ann Bertling (CSE) and her niece were ordered to shelter in place at a shopping center due to an active shooter in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Bertling and other shoppers shared information about their workplace violence training and worked together while they hid and barricaded themselves in the back of the store.

Learn more about what happened in this safety share, courtesy of Bertling. Also, sign up for SEC160 Practical Preparedness for Workplace Violence training today. It helped Bertling make the best of a frightening situation.

Please print this information and use it to help kick off a team discussion at your next meeting with colleagues and/or staff.

All employees are encouraged to submit safety shares for inclusion in the Safety Share Library. Submission details are available on Inside Argonne.

Each month a safety share submitted by an individual will be selected to receive a Spot Award for demonstrated safety leadership. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
