Through the CELS Program Development Training Series, CELS scientists, engineers and researchers develop the tools and knowledge to innovate and champion leading science and new funding programs. Monthly sessions introduce participants to the principals of program development, dive into the mechanics of successful proposal development and outline upcoming strategic opportunities and directions.

The third session of Introduction to Funding Opportunities is Friday, July 14, 2017, from 11 a.m. to noon in Bldg. 240, Room 1406-07.

This month’s session, “Developing Cross-Lab Opportunities and Working with Industry, focuses on:

  • Initiating partnerships and cross-cutting collaborations across the lab
  • Building strategic internal / external collaborations, including working with industry
  • Leading technical gap analysis and researching priority setting
  • Working with lab staff and management to integrate plans across units

Chief Computational Scientist Ray Bair (CELS) and Industrial Outreach Lead David Martin (LCF) will share their insight and expertise on developing cross-lab opportunities and working with industry.

Abstract: Program development creates new opportunities and drives new scientific capabilities by accessing new funding and new funding sources, and building new long-term programs and facilities. Having a clear understanding of the funding landscape and knowing and applying best practices allows researchers to both capitalize on current funding trajectories and to develop new ones. Through the CELS Program Development Training Series, Argonne scientists, engineers and researchers will sharpen and hone their skills in support of the lab’s mission, and develop the tools and knowledge to innovate and champion leading science and new funding programs. Monthly sessions will introduce participants to the principals of program development, dive into the mechanics of successful proposal development, and outline upcoming strategic opportunities and directions.
