Safety share: Strawberry smoothie recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • ¼ cup orange or pineapple juice
  • 1 ½ cups ice
  • A healthy dose of common sense

Directions

  • Hull fresh strawberries with a hulling tool or slice off the the top of the strawberry with a sharp knife.
  • Place the ice cubes in a blender or food processor and blend until crushed.
  • Add strawberries, yogurt, and orange or pineapple juice and blend until smooth.

Tips

Protect your hands!

  • If the ice in your freezer is frozen into a block, use an ice pick or a a meat tenderizer mallet to break it up. Don’t use your hand.
  • Invest in a strawberry huller and use it correctly. Keep your hands and fingers away from the blade(s).
  • Cut-resistant kitchen gloves are available at most kitchenware stores.
  • Keep fingers away from blender blades. Use a wooden spatula if you need to get to the bottom of the blender or food processor, but make sure it’s unplugged first.
