Darius Lisowski (NE) received a Gold Spot Award in May 2017 for safeguarding machine tool operations in Building 308 and taking the initiative to help operators fulfill their training.

Lisowski, a qualified operator, prevented people who were not listed on the division’s approved operators list from operating machines. He took it upon himself to support the programs in completing needed tasks, thereby minimizing potential conflicts and programmatic delays. Lisowski’s actions strictly upheld Argonne’s policy for safe machine tool practices.

Lisowski went above and beyond his responsibilities to ensure that everyone in Building 308 was compliant with machine tool safety. He made sure that the appropriate people met the necessary requirements before they operated machine tools.

Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).

If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting Spot Award (ANL-758).

The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.

Additional information about the Spot Award program is available on Inside Argonne.
