The Leadership Institute will host an interactive workshop “Message Development and Networking/Elevator Pitch” on Friday, Aug. 10, 2017, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Building 446 Auditorium.

Marina Damiano, scientific communications consultant and president of the Chicago section of the Association for Women in Science, will lead the communication skills workshop.

The workshop includes two sessions:

You’ll package up the what, how and so what for your key audiences and practice delivering your message to your peers.
  • Quick guide to the elevator pitch: Upcoming networking event or conference? Need to describe your research quickly to connect with other scientists and non-scientists? This workshop introduces the concept of the elevator pitch for concisely communicating your research. We will give you tips to for delivering a stellar elevator pitch and you’ll have a chance to practice in front of your peers.

Participants should be prepared to do a 30 second to two-minute pitch and have an idea of the types of industries, companies, and/or personalities to which they are appealing.

Space is limited to 20 participants. Seats will be filled in order of registration.
