The Leadership Institute will host a talk, “Evidence-Based Interventions to Address Implicit Bias,” on Monday, Sept. 25, from 10 to 11 a.m., in the Building 203 Auditorium. The speaker will be Anna Kaatz, director of Computational Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Women’s Health Research.

Topics Kaatz will cover include:

  • Cognitive and behavioral strategies that promote diversity and inclusion to foster race and gender equity in the workplace.
  • How to acknowledge and mitigate the way cultural stereotypes impact judgement and behavior.

As a data scientist at the nexus of research on scientific workforce diversity and stereotype-based bias, Kaatz is funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health to develop novel tools and technologies to study and address reasons for female and racial/ethnic minority scientists’ underrepresentation in science and medical research careers. Kaatz has particular expertise in identifying and addressing implicit bias that can disadvantage women and racial/ethnic minorities in evaluation processes critical for advancement.
