The May meeting of the Argonne Garden Club will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016, from noon to 1 p.m. in Building 212, Room A-157. An organic plant sale will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. in the same location.

The guest speaker will be Alison Parker, co-owner and farmer of Radical Root Organic Farm in Libertyville, IL, as well as the Ark of Taste Board Member of Chicago’s Slow Food Chapter. She will discuss the importance of Slow Food’s Ark of Taste movement, food heritage, heirloom plants and biodiversity on the farm and the garden. Parker will also talk about growing in a way that contributes to the environment and to the health of people, and what it means to grow in an ecological way.

Following the meeting there will be an opportunity to purchase seedlings from Parker.  All plants are organically grown and most are heirloom varieties. Parker specializes in tomatoes but will have other veggies as well.

Garden plots are still available around the laboratory site for employees to use. See the Garden Club website for information and forms.
