Alan Kastengren (XSD) received a Gold Spot Award for taking the initiative to rewrite the Experiment Safety Assessment Form (ESAF), a communication issued to Advanced Photon Source (APS) users two weeks before their assigned beamtime.
The ESAF enables APS users to meet the requirement of describing their experiments prior to arriving on site for setup. Alan thoroughly rewrote this communication to reflect the care, thoroughness and attentiveness that APS users need to bring to filling out the ESAF. In addition, the ESAF now succinctly covers several other safety issues critical to enabling an experiment to be performed safely.
The revised ESAF should help APS users better understand the ESAF’s necessary safety components and thereby significantly reduce delays in the start of experiments.
Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting Spot Award (ANL-758).
The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.
Additional information about the Spot Award program is available on Inside Argonne.
