John Mitchell, director of the laboratory’s Materials and Chemistry Initiative, will host a series of town hall meetings to help define the scope and inform the direction of the initiative strategy. Each meeting aligns with a current focus area of the initiative. Lab leaders will serve as discussion moderators.

All meetings will be held in Building 241, Room D172.

Meetings will include a brief introduction to the initiative, followed by an open floor session made up of five-minute presentations about ideas for where Argonne should be heading scientifically in these areas.  A moderated discussion session will conclude each meeting.

Call for presenters

All interested members of the Argonne community are invited to attend and/or to present at one or more of the town hall meetings. Each presentation should consist of no more than two slides that identify the opportunity and outline Argonne’s approach. Submissions can be viewed and downloaded on Box.

Deadlines for presentation submissions:

  • Catalysis: Oct. 27, 2017
  • Quantum Information: Nov. 12, 2017
  • Energy-Storage: Dec. 1, 2017
  • Energy-Water: Dec. 12, 2017
  • Synthesis Science: Jan 5, 2017

Email submissions to Becky Rank by 5 p.m. on the deadline provided.

These town hall meetings are an important part of the Materials and Chemistry Initiative in its formative stage. In particular, input from these meetings will inform the Materials and Chemistry Laboratory-Directed Research and Development portfolio as well as shape the 2018 Lab Plan. Thus, participation from across the laboratory is essential to create a balanced, representative strategy that advances Materials and Chemistry at Argonne.
