June Ann Lena (FAC) received a Gold Spot Award for her successful implementation of a new tagging system in place on the loading dock for Buildings 223/241. Created by Ed Schmitt (PSE), this system manages the compressed gas cylinder inventory.

Managing the loading dock inventory for these cylinders has been a challenge ever since 2013 when Building 241 became occupied. As a result of the implementation, however, many principal investigators are now aware of cylinders on the dock that they did not know they had. Additionally, the need for approximately 10 cylinders has been eliminated.

Moving forward, the implementation enables a much safer loading dock resulting from the ability to maintain better control over the inventory and prevent the overflow and improper storage of gas cylinders.

Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).

If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting Spot Award (ANL-758).

The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.

Additional information about the Spot Award program is available on Inside Argonne.
