During autumn, acorns, black walnuts (they look like green balls), pinecones and dead twigs and branches can clutter walkways and parking areas. This can create an obstacle course for walkers.
“Fall” in this sense has a double meaning. It means the autumn season, as well as watch your step so you don’t fall down. There have been some slipping incidents over the last couple of years related to tree debris. Be extra careful walking this time of year, especially if it rains or when there is dew on the ground.
Please be extra vigilant when walking near trees to ensure that you do not slip, trip or roll an ankle.
Report areas of concern
Please contact safety@anl.gov or use the Argonne safetywatch app on your phone to report a pedestrian traffic area with extensive debris that could cause a tripping hazard. You can also contact FAC-Custodial at Ext. 2-6498 or open a Vector ticket.

All employees are encouraged to submit safety shares for inclusion in the Safety Share Library, available on Box. Submission details are available on Inside Argonne.
Each month a safety share submitted by an individual will be selected to receive a Spot Award for demonstrated safety leadership. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
