Argonne’s Manufacturing Science and Engineering Initiative will host a workshop Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Building 402 Gallery to help identify Argonne’s strengths in high-performance computing (HPC) and how they can be applied to build a robust manufacturing science program.

The goal of the workshop is to define opportunities for program growth and to find new ways to add HPC capabilities to existing programs to enhance the success rate of proposals and industry engagements. The role of computing in next-generation manufacturing and the impact the lab can have in this domain is limitless. This will be a collaboration among lead thinkers and computational scientists in the lab to determine the path forward starting from atoms to manufacturing scale problems. There will be ample opportunities for discussion with speakers and panelists to shape future opportunities.

All Argonne researchers are encouraged to attend and share ideas during the panel discussion sections and during the public forum section at the end of the workshop.

Topics to be discussed include: multiscale science, mesoscale modeling, continuum scale modeling, process modeling, design of reactions and reactors, materials design, machine learning, artificial intelligence and opportunities for exascale.

Those who register will be added to an HPC and manufacturing email list to received notice of upcoming speaker events and opportunities to collaborate on proposals or research projects.
