This week, I had the privilege to recognize nearly 200 employees for their long-term service and commitment to the lab. We can all be grateful for these individuals, who have spent 20, 30, 40 and even 55 years building Argonne into a world-class, multidisciplinary scientific institution. They have experienced so much — from early use of technology on the job to watching our lab grow through innovations, initiatives and infrastructure.
Something else these employees have experienced many times is the annual federal budget process. The situation we currently are in — with questions remaining about our budget for the fiscal year that is already underway — does happen from time to time, and requires us to remain patient.
Yesterday, both chambers of Congress signed continuing resolutions that maintain FY17 federal funding through December 22. The House and Senate continue to work to reconcile their FY18 federal budgets into a version that will be sent to the President for signature.
I ask for your support as our funding picture becomes clearer and we respond accordingly. We continue preparing for the years ahead and engaging in conversations with our stakeholders with the goal of continuing our important work in all areas.
I appreciate your patience during this process. I will continue to provide budget updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for staying focused on your work and prioritizing safety in all that you do.
