Kathleen Bailey
Kathleen Bailey (PMO) and Paul Reimer (PHY) have been selected to participate in the 2018 cohort of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Project Leadership Institute (PLI). The PLI is designed to cultivate a diverse network of successful DOE project delivery practitioners — those capable of delivering major high-risk projects. The program participants will contribute to building a culture of project management excellence across DOE.
Bailey is the project controls lead on the ALCF-3 and B350 projects at the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility. Previously, she was the associate project manager for the APS upgrade project with responsibility for delivering the project in compliance with the stringent project management requirements of both DOE and Argonne.
Reimer is a physicist in the Medium Energy Physics group of Argonne’s Physics Division. His research involves probing substructure of the nucleon and the nucleus with a variety of techniques. To complete these studies, he has proposed and led experiments that require significant coordination in detector design and construction.
Paul Reimer
The PLI is a 12-month, cohort-based program that includes five in-person sessions throughout the year, one online course over the summer months, and a one-year-long capstone project. Participants have been selected from across the DOE complex.
The program will emphasize critical leadership development principles including execution of complex projects, stakeholder communications, leading effective teams and the role of a project leader. It will emphasize experiential learning components and interaction with leaders from a variety of fields. Participants also will undertake self-assessment activities to reveal strengths and potential weaknesses in the project leadership context.
A call will go out next summer for those interested in applying for the 2019 cohort. All employees at DOE laboratories and sites and all DOE federal employees are eligible. Employees of non-DOE organizations delivering major projects for DOE and who are directly engaged in project management are also eligible.
