Argonne’s third annual Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) Day highlighted 16 research projects that have the potential to become the newest innovations in science and technology. “One of the greatest benefits we’ve found resulting from LDRD Day,” said LDRD Program Manager Vivian Sullivan, “is the opportunity for the Argonne community to gather and share ideas during the day-long event, especially during the popular poster session, which showcases novel research under way across the laboratory.”
In addition to the poster session, the Jan. 19 LDRD Day featured presentations by Argonne management and other leaders, as well as the latest news and information about the LDRD program. LDRD Day complements the LDRD Seminar Series, in which lead principal investigators of LDRD-funded projects present their latest research.
The LDRD program gives researchers the chance to plant the seeds of scientific inquiry and grow them into viable scientific and technical breakthroughs that may eventually be funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in support of DOE missions or be viable for technology transfer.
LDRD needs your input
As part of an ongoing effort to improve LDRD program outreach and communication, the program office invites the lab community to participate in a survey about LDRD Day and the ongoing LDRD Seminar Series. Explains Sullivan, “Our goal is to gather information that will help us improve LDRD Day and the LDRD Seminar Series and thereby better meet your needs and expectations related to these activities. At the end of the survey, you will have an opportunity to provide your contact information if you would like to learn more about the LDRD Program or discuss LDRD-related topics.”
