If there’s an emergency while you’re on campus, dial 9-1-1 from land lines and 1-630-252-1911 from cell phones. If you are unsure if it’s an emergency, call anyway!
What to expect when you call 9-1-1
When you call 9-1-1, the dispatcher who answers will ask you a series of questions. The dispatcher relays your answers to the responders so they will have as much information as possible.
The information being collected is extremely important for everyone’s safety.
You’ll be asked to provide detailed information about any hazards that may be present when the Fire Department arrives. This is to minimize the risk to the responders and help mitigate incidents as safely and efficiently as possible.
The dispatcher will ask you to describe any chemicals that might be involved and describe pertinent Safety Data Sheets.
