It is often said that we cannot know who we are today, or set the course of where we are headed, without knowing our history. This is equally true of Women’s History Month, which we celebrate in March.
In 2016, former Women in Science and Technology (WIST) Program Initiator and Emeritus Scientist Marion Thurnauer visited the lab. She brought with her some papers from her days of working to start the WIST program. As a few of us who are involved in WIST looked through these papers and memos, we started to realize how much we did not know or remember about our own organization’s history.
Looking back over this 30-year history, we saw progress over the arc of time that shapes itself into the trajectory of the years to come. To share with you a sense of our own women’s history here at Argonne, and our hope for the future, we present the first in a series of short videos for Women’s History month: “It Started with a Memo” and the text of the memo that started the program, read by members of WIST.
