The philosopher Aristotle wrote, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Yet, it takes intention and effort to lift our heads and see everything we can do for those around us — to make our whole organization thrive.
I am excited to have the opportunity to stand with you at moments when you act to elevate each other as I take on new roles within the Leadership Institute. In addition to serving as University Partnerships program manager, I have accepted two additional responsibilities — to further develop and engage our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and to develop and coordinate an award nomination process across the laboratory. In beginning this work, I am meeting with the leaders of our ERGs to listen to their perspectives and hear their thoughts. I have begun working with the members of a lab-wide awards working group to identify points of common connection. Going forward, I am hopeful that together we will not only increase the diversity of our population through our partnerships, but that we will ensure the full inclusion of those we bring here, and complete the circle of fostering those relationships. Standing together with our ERGs as members and friends, and nominating each other for awards are examples of where we take action in courage, and make Argonne a place where everyone thrives.
Reaching out to support each other takes effort. It takes a willingness to act on the belief that together everyone achieves more. I look forward to doing this work together with you.
