“Crossing Paths,” an exhibit by artists Carla Carr, Javier Chavira and Sergio Gomez, will be on display in the Building 201 Gallery March 19 through June 15, 2018. All members of the Argonne community are welcome to visit the gallery in the Building 201 Lobby and enjoy the artwork.
An artists’ reception will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from 4-6 p.m.; the artists will speak at 4:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
Carr, Chavira and Gomez have all developed their artistic voice by observing the world around them. Together they have nurtured a long-term friendship, a working relationship and a creative independence.
The three artists met as graduate students attending Governors State University. After earning several degrees and credentials in art, these close friends developed the idea of running a studio and gallery as a means to show and promote their artwork. Together they founded 33 Collective Gallery, located in the Zhou B Art Center, in Chicago. The space these artists developed hosted many exhibitions while also serving as a meeting place and inspiration for their fellow artists. Eventually, their careers and artistic pursuits evolved and took them in different directions. This reunion exhibit will illustrate how they still share a strong commonality in their concern for the human condition, nature and spirituality expressed in their artwork.
“As friends and artists it is imperative to keep one’s own voice while nurturing each other’s strengths and creativity,” said exhibit curators Mary Bookwalter, Janice Meister and Carol Weber. “It was our intention to bring these three powerful and wonderfully independent artists back together again for an exhibit showing how their time spent together and apart has strengthened the scope and diversity of their work.”
