Michael Derbidge, former Argonne chief operations officer at Argonne-West, died March 20, 2016, of natural causes at the age of 67. Derbidge was a resident of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Derbidge joined Argonne-West, the laboratory’s former reactor research site in Idaho, in 1972 as a technical writer and operating technician. He was an executive assistant in the Experimental Breeder Reactor Division from 1982-84. From 1984 until he retired in 2005, Derbidge held a series of positions in the Office of Technology Development (OTD), including research programs director and division director. Derbidge served as OTD’s chief operations officer from 2002-04 and transition director from 2004-05.
Derbidge was born Oct. 18, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his degree in political science from Idaho State University and his MBA from the University of Chicago.
Derbidge was president of the national Veteran Motor Car Club of America (VMCCA).
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judyth Derbidge of Idaho Falls; daughter, Domini and sons, Aron and Adam. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
