AWARE — Argonne’s Work Assessment and Review Effort — is the name for the laboratory’s enhanced work planning and control online application. AWARE beat out several other submissions in a contest launched by the Improving How We Work – Work Planning and Control project team. From submissions received from across the laboratory, the team narrowed the selections down to the top five, which were sent out to Argonne employees associated with the Improving How We Work project with instructions to choose their favorite.
The top vote-getter was submitted by Suellen Cook (HSE), who will receive a silver Spot Award. Theresa Davis (HSE), Jessica Durham (AMD), Paul Fenter (CSE) and Natalie Zender (SSS) will receive bronze Spot Awards for having suggestions in the final round.
AWARE is now ready to launch after having been tested and reviewed by the Improving How We Work team, a network of Change Champions, and other stakeholders. Users from around the lab also took part in user acceptance testing.
Benefits of the enhanced application include:
- Streamlined input process: Elimination of nonessential information and reduced size of the hazard tree
- Navigation aligned with Integrated Safety Management and work planning and control processes
- Usable output that contains relevant information so that work can be performed safely
- Current work control documents will still be available in the updated application
- Updates and revisions to work control documents can be completed during the standard document review cycle
You’ll have several opportunities to see the enhanced application in action, including demonstration of how to navigate the application and create work control documents. Enroll in the session of your choice through the Training Management System. The course is “WCP401 – Overview of the WPC Application.”
