The laboratory community is invited to attend Argonne’s fourth annual LDRD Day on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, in Building 203, Room D120. Hosted by the Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) Program Office, LDRD Day will highlight research projects that have the potential to become the newest innovations in science and technology.

“One of the greatest benefits we’ve found resulting from LDRD Day,” explains Vivian Sullivan, LDRD program manager, “is the opportunity for the Argonne community to gather and share ideas during the daylong event, especially during the popular poster session, which showcases novel research under way across the laboratory.”

This year’s event features research from divisions across the laboratory, including the Advanced Photon Source (APS) Accelerator Systems, Data Science and Learning, Energy Systems, Environmental Science, the Leadership Computing Facility, Materials Science, Mathematics and Computer Science and Nanoscience and Technology.

Through the LDRD program, Argonne researchers have cultivated viable scientific and technical breakthroughs by starting with novel concepts. The APS, Argonne Leadership Computing Facility and Joint Center for Energy Storage Research are examples of how concepts can become critical resources for world-class research as a result of LDRD support.

In addition to the highlighted projects, LDRD Day will feature presentations by laboratory leaders and training for LDRD researchers, as well as a new offering this year — presentations on a variety of services available to all of the Argonne research community, including project management, communication and information technology.

For more information on LDRD Day, contact LDRD Program Administrator Marianne Dietz at ext. 2-5373.
