The ML/HPC Journal Club will hold its monthly seminar on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at 10 a.m. in Building 240, Room 1405. Join us for presentations by Logan Ward (DSL) and Bethany Lusch (LCF) .
“Combining Machine Learning and High-Throughput Science” by Logan Ward
Abstract
The focus of this talk is on how machine learning and high-throughput/automated science work well together in materials science. I will discuss of some of my recent collaborations in this area on designing materials with machine learning, and conclude with an overview of the roadblocks preventing machine learning from being used more broadly.
“Discovering Governing Equations from Data by Sparse Identification of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems” by Bethany Lusch
Abstract
We discuss a paper on discovering simple natural laws from experimental data. The described method has the potential to identify new mathematical models in fields such as physics, climate science, and neuroscience.
