Several prescribed burns are planned for the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve this spring, mainly to the south and west of the Argonne site. The DuPage County Forest Preserve District conducts these burns to promote the health of native plants, eliminate unwanted exotic plants and reduce the probability of wildfires.
Burns are conducted only on days that meet certain weather criteria, including wind conditions that help keep smoke away from occupied portions of the Argonne site. If conditions change, the burns will be cancelled. Signs will be posted to alert motorist and pedestrians.
Those who may be sensitive to smoke can sign up for email air quality notifications when burns are conducted.
