Two brochures produced by Argonne received Distinguished Awards at the March 21, 2019, Society for Technical Communication (STC) Chicago Recognition and Awards Banquet.

In the “Informational” materials category, “Check it Out: Using Checklists to Assess Your Transition to Alternative Fuels” produced by Larry Johnson, Chuck Risch, Dan Santini, Michele M. Nelson and Kevin A. Brown won a Distinguished Award.

In the “Promotional” materials category, the “National Laboratory Directors’ Council D&I Workshop Brochure” captured a Distinguished Award. This brochure was produced by Katherine Obmascik, Lidia Hernandez and Donna Pelkie.

A Distinguished Award presents superior standards in all areas of evaluation. Judges consider a Distinguished entry to be something that can be used in a classroom as an example of exemplary technical communication.

STC is a not-for-profit educational and professional organization dedicated to the advancement of technical communication. It is the world’s largest professional associate for the technical communication profession. STC Chicago was founded in 1955 and provides diverse educational and networking experience to technical communication professionals. The call for entries for the 2019–2020 competition will be announced in August 2019.

STC has four competition divisions:

  • Informational
  • Instructional
  • Promotional
  • User Support

STC has four award levels:

  • Merit
  • Excellence
  • Distinguished
  • Best in Show

In addition to gaining visibility for technical communication, the competition provides an opportunity for recognizing outstanding work. Detailed feedback on the entries is provided by the peer reviewers.
