Talk to highlight India’s Energy Storage and EV program

Opportunities in India for energy storage and electric vehicles, and the country’s proposed National Mission for Transformative Mobility, will be the subjects of a talk by Rahul Walawalkar, president of the India Energy Storage Alliance and chair of the Global Energy Storage Alliance, on Friday, May 10. The interactive, open-ended talk will be held in Building 200, Conference Room C182, at 9:30 a.m., and is open to all interested members of the Argonne community.

Walawalkar is also president and managing director of Customized Energy Solutions India, Pvt Ltd. He leads the emerging technologies practice for customized energy solutions globally with focus on energy storage, renewables, demand response and smart grid technologies as well as international markets. He has been involved in evaluating economics of emerging technologies in deregulated electricity markets since 2004. His activities cover a complete range of smart grid, demand response, microgrid and energy storage technologies. Rahul is also the founder and executive director of India Energy Storage Alliance.

The Indian government has approved the National Mission for Transformative Mobility and Energy Storage, which includes a major component for R&D and manufacturing. India Energy Storage Alliance has been working closely with key government stakeholders, including the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the National Institution for Transforming India, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Heavy Industries as well as some of the key private sector looking to invest in the program.
