‘Analyzing the Resilience of Middle Eastern Urban Communities’

Researcher Sara Lechtenberg-Kastenwill will present “Analyzing the Resilience of Middle Eastern Urban Communities” on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. in the Building 203 Auditorium. The talk focuses on her work to improve the resilience of urban areas in the Middle East. All employees are invited to attend.

Abstract

This presentation will provide information on the challenges of a mixed methods approach, the opportunities of working for communities in the Middle East, the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), and the study methodology.

Biography

Sara Lechtenberg-Kasten is a research fellow and served in an operations role for two years at KAPSARC. She joined the research center in 2015, bringing extensive experience in designing politically sensitive studies for governmental and non-governmental organizations. Lechtenberg-Kasten has worked at strategic, operational, and tactical levels during both study design and implementing change. She has also led multidisciplinary teams and worked with clients worldwide, with experiences in Saudi Arabia, Haiti, El Salvador, Kuwait, Nigeria, Thailand, and South Africa.

Prior to joining KAPSARC, she was a social scientist with the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Analysis Center (TRAC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas where she supported gender, sexual assault, and humanitarian assistance studies. She also supported TRAC as an associate with Booz Allen Hamilton where she identified key actors present in irregular warfare scenarios. She also was a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State where she liaised with host nation officials, political appointees, and government agencies to advance foreign policy goals in the Middle East and South Asia. Lechtenberg-Kasten has a Bachelor of Science in journalism from the University of Kansas, a Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law, and LL.M in International Protection of Humans Rights from the American University Washington College of Law.
