Call for applications for Maria Goeppert Mayer Fellowship

Due Oct.1, 2019

Applications for the 2020 Maria Goeppert Mayer Fellowship are now being accepted for appointments beginning on or after Oct. 1, 2020. The deadline for submitting application materials is 7 p.m. DST, Oct. 1, 2019.

The goal for the Maria Goeppert Mayer Fellowship is to bring new research ideas and capabilities to the lab through the recruitment of world-class science and engineering talent. Proposals should demonstrate alignment with the strategic missions of the laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy. Proposals aligned with quantum information sciences, artificial intelligence applied to science, and microelectronics science are especially encouraged.

These three-year fellowships carry a competitive salary with an additional stipend for research support. The fellowships are managed through Argonne’s Laboratory-Directed Research and Development (LDRD) program. The third year of support will be provided 50% from the LDRD program and 50% from other sources. Sponsors must address plans for third-year funding at the time of nomination as indicated on the sponsor nomination form.

Argonne staff considering sponsoring a candidate are expected to discuss the nomination with their division leadership before the submission deadline and are encouraged to consult their representative on the Named Fellowship Review Committee.

Documents and detailed guidance for the sponsor and applicant are available through the Argonne Careers site under the Fellowships section. Incomplete application packages will not be considered for selection.

For more information on the Named Fellowship Program, please contact Tina Henne at ext. 2-2907, or Vivian Sullivan at ext. 2-1890
