Recently, Apple determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro laptop computers, the battery may overheat and pose a fire hazard.

Business and Information Systems has identified the affected lab-owned MacBooks and notified division information technology administrators to begin the recall process. However, it’s possible that some devices may have been missed so employees are encouraged to evaluate any personal or work MacBooks that could be affected by this recall. Employees can determine if their laptop computer is included in this recall by checking the laptop’s serial number on the Apple recall website.

The recalled laptops were sold at Apple stores and electronics stores nationwide and online at www.apple.com from September 2015, through February 2017, and the product serial number determines product eligibility. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled laptop computers. Contact Apple to determine if the laptop computer is a part of the recall and to schedule a free repair.

Affected consumers are encouraged to contact Apple at 800-275-2273 anytime, or visit the recall website.
