Ramanujam Raj Sekar
Former Argonne engineer Ramanujam (Raj) Sekar died Monday, Oct. 7, 2019. Born in 1943, Sekar received his M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1969) and an MBA from Indiana University, Bloomington (1974). He worked at Cummins Engine Company from 1969-1984, eventually becoming program manager for U.S. Department of Energy programs.
Sekar was hired in 1985 by Argonne’s Energy Systems division for the specific task of initiating an engine-related research program. His 30-year career at Argonne culminated with the position of acting director for the Center for Transportation Research.
Sekar is credited for over 50 technical publications, more than seven patents, an R&D 100 award (1999) and several other awards. In 2003 he was elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
