Argonne provides parents with paid time off to care for and bond with their new child. We are pleased to announce enhancements to our parental leave benefit to better support this important time in a family’s life.
As of Jan. 1, 2020:
- All benefit-eligible employees will be entitled to the same leave benefit. The designation of primary or secondary caregiver will be eliminated.
- The lab will offer all benefit-eligible employees up to a total of eight weeks of parental leave benefits. Up to six weeks will be paid at 100% of salary. Up to two additional weeks will be paid at 50% of salary to ease the transition of returning to a regular work schedule. During these two weeks, employees must supplement the remaining 50% by working — either by returning to the laboratory or telecommuting, if approved by the employee’s supervisor.
A child’s date of birth/adoption will determine whether benefits fall under the current policy, effective through Dec. 31, 2019, or the new policy effective on Jan. 1, 2020.
For details, please see LMS-PROC-315: Parental Leave, which includes additional details on leave benefits, as well as instructions on how to apply for parental leave benefits. More information for expectant parents can be found online.
Helping our employees to manage their work life balance is important as the lab strives to remain competitive, attract and retain top talent, and meet the diverse needs of our mission-driven workforce.
