On July 6, 2016, Pamela Spetz (GSS) received a Gold Spot Award for taking measures to ensure that emergency personnel can quickly access secure areas in Building 203 in order to provide life-saving assistance in the event of an emergency.

Spetz noted that Argonne emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and protective force personnel didn’t have access to a secure area in Building 203, D-Wing. This presented a potentially serious issue in the event of an emergency, medical or otherwise. Immediate care can be the turning factor in a life-threatening medical situation.

Spetz took the initiative and helped ensure that the issue was resolved for the safety and health of all individuals working in secure areas in Building 203. Procedures for emergency personnel access to secure areas were reviewed and revised.

Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).

If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting xink form ANL-758.

The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions.

Additional information about the Spot Award program is available on Inside Argonne.
