A flu vaccine make-up day will be offered Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Health and Employee Wellness Medical Clinic in Bldg. 201.

A limited number of vaccines are available and registration through the Xink system is required.

The flu vaccine is available free of charge to all medically eligible Argonne employees.

  • Please note: Argonne Associates are not eligible for the flu shot.

Employees will need to register for an appointment through the Xink system.

2016-2017 influenza vaccine

The timing of flu is very unpredictable and can vary in different parts of the country and from season to season. Most seasonal flu activity typically occurs between October and May. Flu activity most commonly peaks in the United States between December and February.

Three kinds of flu viruses commonly circulate today:

  • Influenza A (H1N1) viruses
  • Influenza A (H3N2) viruses
  • Influenza B viruses

The 2016-2017 influenza vaccine is made to protect against the following three viruses:

  • A/California/7/2009 (H1N1) like virus
  • A/Hong Kong/ 4801/2014 (H3N2) like virus
  • B/Brisbane/60/2008 like virus (Victoria lineage)

Flu vaccination policy

These appointments are not times to ask questions of the clinical staff. Any questions specific to the flu vaccine should be made before the appointment through wellness@anl.gov.

Employees must show up for their scheduled appointment.

Failure to show up for the scheduled appointment will result in the employee not receiving the vaccination. HEW will not call and remind employees of their appointment times. If employees cannot make their appointment time, they need to cancel their appointment through Xink and try to reschedule.

Employees should wear clothing that allows easy access to the shoulder area. Anyone requiring disrobing will be requested to do so in a separate room and will have to wait until a clinical staff member has time to rotate into that room to provide the vaccination.

Due to the limited supply of vaccines, there can be no exceptions to this policy.

For more information on the inactivated influenza vaccine, view the vaccine information statement (VIS) from the CDC.
