This Halloween, keep a close eye out for little monsters…and kids with their parents…while you’re driving.
Scary statistics from the National Safety Council (NSC)
- Darting or running into the road accounts for:
- 70% of pedestrian deaths or injuries for kids five to nine years old
- 45% of pedestrian deaths or injuries for kids 10 to 14 years old
- October ranks #2 in motor vehicle deaths in the United States by month.
- In 2014, there were 6,300 pedestrian deaths and 145,000 injuries involving pedestrian-motor vehicle accidents.
Safety tips for motorists from the NSC
- Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs.
- Enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully.
- At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing.
