Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. This maxim is familiar to each of us. But does observing this hierarchy really minimize negative environmental impacts? The answer varies by material and may involve tradeoffs. Is it better to recycle paper or use it as an alternative energy source? What’s the difference in energy used to recycle aluminum cans versus glass bottles? Why is recycling car batteries so important?
Linda Gaines, transportation systems analyst with Energy Systems, will lead a thought-provoking presentation and discussion around the science behind materials recycling.
The event will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Building 213 Bistro, Conference Rooms A&B.
On your way to the talk, feel free to bring any used, laboratory-owned batteries to the cafeteria for recycling (e.g., AA, AAA, C, D, 9V and button batteries).
Information about recycled content products available through preferred laboratory vendors will also be on display.
