You’re invited to attend “Weak at the Knees? Get Healthy. Get Strong.” on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, from 12:15 p.m. to 12:35 p.m in the Bldg. 213 Cafeteria Conference Room.
Led by Physical Therapy Assistant JoAnn “Joni” Garcia (HEW), the 20-minute interactive lunchtime class will focus on exercises and stretches you can do to keep your knees happy.
Four tips:
- Wear shoes that keep your feet comfortable.
- Maintain a healthy weight. One pound of weight loss reduces four pounds of joint stress.
- Increase your muscular strength and balance to distribute weight more evenly.
- Know how to use common gym equipment without causing injury.
All are welcome to attend and bring their lunches. There is no cost or registration required.
Participants will earn 100 Virgin Pulse points for attending this course. Virgin Pulse points count towards Argonne’s Incentivized Wellness Program.
This class is part of Argonne’s 20-Minute Interactive Exercise and Injury Prevention series.

Employee feedback from previous exercise and injury prevention classes
“I found the material provided by Joni and her presentation delivery was top shelf. She demonstrated great command of the material and just the right infusion of humor to keep the audience engaged.”

“I just wanted to tell you how helpful these sessions are. I didn’t realize that for most of my life, I have exercised incorrectly. It was quite eye opening and very informative. The session was well attended and I hope we can have more like it.”

I attended Joni’s class today and had a great time. Her demonstration of proper techniques to stretch and/or strengthen shoulders was valuable. Her presentation was informative, easy to understand and peppered with some jokes. I’ve heard from two people that the back class was helpful and that the two people have made some posture changes that have already started to help them. I’m glad Argonne allows HEW to make these types of presentations and I hope that you’ll be able to continue to provide them. There are real benefits to employees and HEW is greatly appreciated.
