Curatorial statement
By Carol Weber, Artist and Exhibit Curator
Georgia O’Keefe, one of history’s most well-known female artists, once said, “I feel there is something unexplored about a woman that only a woman can explore.”
In this exhibit, we endeavor to honor the work and contribution of women artists. The exhibit features work by seven women who each have their own voice in the arts. Women have played an important creative role throughout history, though they have mostly been under represented. This is something contemporary times have sought to heal.
What is important here is not gender, but rather, the woman’s perspective.
American feminist artist, art educator and writer Judy Chicago said, “I go to make art as who I am as a person. The fact that I am a woman comes into play maybe in the kinds of things I’m interested in or the way I structure a canvas.”
