Argonne’s first Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition kicks off Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Building 240 TCS Conference Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eight student or “blue” teams representing seven universities will compete against each other by designing foolproof networks to fend off cyber attacks from Argonne’s “red” team while developing systems to keep information secure for a mock corporation. The team that does the best job of protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of their system wins.
Brigadier General Richard J. Hayes, Jr., Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, will deliver the keynote speech. Associate Laboratory Director Todd Combs will provide opening remarks, followed by short remarks from Representative Bill Foster (D-IL).
Supported by EGS and led by Argonne’s Cyber Operations, Analysis and Research Group and the Education Department, the competition organizers hope to help develop the next generation of cyber defenders by creating awareness and interest in the rapidly growing cyber security industry.
Argonne employees, guests and the public are welcome to attend any time during the competition. Guest passes are not needed. Visitors can access the competition through the conference parking lot, next to the visitor’s center.
