John Wozniak (FMS) and Richard Voogd (FMS) received Gold Spot Awards in February 2017 for cleaning and reorganizing two large spaces within the Building 363 Central Shop area.
These spaces, used by the inspection department for mass spectrometer leak detection and hydrostatic inspections, had, over time, accumulated materials and archived documentation. Their clean-up effort took about eight weeks and included reorganizing the area with an improved layout and new furniture. This was above and beyond Voogd and Wozniak’s normal job duties.
The mechanical inspection area is now a safer place to inspect and manipulate components produced in Central Shops and other areas throughout the laboratory. A more organized work environment has also improved productivity and efficiency, and there’s an opportunity to expand the scope of work performed in that area in the future.
Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting xink form ANL-758.
The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval. Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.
