Javier Bareno (CSE) and Victor “Tory” Steed (CSE) received Gold Spot Awards in March 2017 for ensuring that two key audits were completed smoothly.
During the week of March 27, 2017, two lab-wide audits took place: ISO14001 Environmental Management System and OHSAS18001 Occupational Health and Safety. The auditors made a last-minute change in the schedule—they wanted to tour some used oil, universal waste and satellite waste accumulation areas. Tory was instrumental in providing areas for the auditors to visit and he answered their questions with clarity and professionalism.
Javier’s laboratory, which has a satellite waste accumulation area, was also selected for a visit. During the audit, he answered questions on a variety of topics including environment, safety, sustainability goals and communication avenues at Argonne.
Victor and Javier’s actions contributed to the closeout of several minor non-conformances found in previous audits.
Spot Awards give employees “on-the-spot” recognition for positive safety or quality assurance initiative. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
If you see an employee exhibiting behavior that warrants positive recognition (e.g., safe behavior or process improvements), you can nominate that individual for a Spot Award by submitting Spot Award (ANL-758). The form will be routed to the individual’s supervisor and division for approval.
Observers may award employees from their own division or from other divisions. The cost of the award is charged to the recipient’s division.
