You’re invited – please join us at one of three Town Hall Meetings to find out how you can recycle Richardson Metals. Argonne has a new process for disposal of Richardson Metals from radiological facilities.

History of Richardson Materials

In 2000, then-DOE Secretary Bill Richardson issued a moratorium on the recycling of all metals with the potential for volumetric radiological contamination. Metals affected by this moratorium are called Richardson Metals. They typically originate from accelerator facilities where radioactivation is possible.

Until DOE-STD-6004: Clearance and Release of Personal Property from Accelerator Facilities was released last year, there was no authorized process for the clearance of potentially activated materials. Now, however, we have a process in place for recycling these materials. Learn more at a Town Hall Meeting.
