On May 23, 2017, a woman in Vancouver, Washington returned to her automobile after work and found that a can of hairspray had rocketed halfway through her car’s windshield. The bottom half of the can was still in the backseat of the car. She realized that she had inadvertently forgotten the pressurized can in the hot car, and it had exploded.
Learn more about the science and history of aerosol hairsprays in this safety share, courtesy of Dejan Ristic (HSE), as well as tips on how to prevent pressurized cans from overheating. Please print this information and use it to help kick off a team discussion at your next meeting with colleagues and/or staff.
All employees are encouraged to submit safety shares for inclusion in the Safety Share Library. Submission details are available on Inside Argonne.
Each month a safety share submitted by an individual will be selected to receive a Spot Award for demonstrated safety leadership. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
