A camera-equipped drone, or unmanned aerial system (UAS), will be conducting operations over the Advanced Photon Source (APS) on or around Sept. 12, 2017, in order to capture aerial video and photographs of the APS.

The UAS will be operated by Argonne employees who are U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) certified and qualified pilots. The UAS used for filming is a Harrier 6, part of Argonne’s rapidly expanding fleet of UAS’s.

Any person who enters the 400 Area, or steps outside Building 400 APS during filming, will automatically become an active participant in the flight operation. Active participants must adhere to the instructions of the flight team, may be filmed, and should not look at the UAS as that may be distracting to those monitoring the video. Flight crews will be wearing orange vests and will avoid flying the UAS directly over people.

If a person chooses not to be an active participant, they must remain indoors during flight operations or stay no less than 500 feet away from the UAS.

More details, including approximate flight times, will be available soon.

For questions regarding the photo shoot, contact: Matt Kwiatkowski or Dan Harris.
