The development of Argonne employees’ leadership skills is essential for the growth and future of the laboratory. For the past 11 years, the laboratory has supported employees’ leadership development through the Strategic Laboratory Leadership Program (SLLP).
SLLP will be offered again this year. Classes begin in June. SLLP is a non-degree executive leadership program designed for our best emerging leaders. It offers a unique environment which enables high-potential employees to build leadership skills, network, gain cross-functional knowledge and, ultimately, prepare for more senior leadership roles. Both programmatic and operational staff members are eligible to participate.
SLLP is sponsored by UChicago Argonne, LLC. It was developed by the Chicago Booth School of Business and is open to staff of Argonne, Fermilab and Jefferson Laboratory. Employees interested in being nominated for the program should speak with their immediate supervisor and their human resources manager.
Nomination process
- Associate Laboratory Directors will work with the Leadership Institute and Human Resource Services to identify nominees from each directorate, leveraging the succession planning process and additional inputs or recommendations.
- Employees must be full-time exempt and may not have received an Executive MBA from the University of Chicago or Northwestern University.
- Due by March 1: Send a nomination letter for each person identified in Step 1 to Laura Altergott in the Leadership Institute. Successful candidates should have:
- Leadership capabilities
- Skill to work collaboratively across traditional laboratory boundaries
- Willingness to take on assignments in new areas
- Demonstrated innovation and creativity in problem solving
- Laboratory Director Paul Kearns, will select and announce the employees to participate in SLLP cohort 12.
2018 curriculum and dates
Chicago Booth faculty will conduct three classroom sessions at the University of Chicago Gleacher Center. Sessions will be held in June, August and November with dates to be determined. Participants also will be assigned a team project to be completed between sessions. Additionally, attendees may attend one of Chicago Booth’s Executive Education open enrollment courses upon program completion. SLLP alumni will be expected and encouraged to contribute to special projects that support the laboratory’s mission and strategic initiatives. A more detailed curriculum overview can be found here.
