“Investing in Science and Education: An Act of Faith,” Tuesday, Feb. 20

Join us for an evening with John Rowe, Chairman Emeritus of Exelon Corporation. Rowe will address the rewards and challenges of investing in science and education, including the speculative nature of investing in much scientific work, the almost faith-based activity of investing in liberal arts education and the successes and failures of investing in urban education. Science Riot presented by C2ST, Friday, March 23

C2ST partnered with Science Riot to give a crash course in comedy to local scientists before turning them loose on an audience. Past performers have included an archaeologist, dietician, robotics engineer, cartographer and pilot. Science Riot focuses on how to make their expertise relatable and interesting — and funny! Come show your support for local experts performing standup for their first time ever.  Learn more.

“The Origins of the Genus Homo,” Wednesday, May 23

When did our ancestors look the way we expect the earliest members of our genus to have looked? The search for what defines the genus Homo has spanned decades and is still debated among scientists today. In this talk, paleoanthropologist Bernard Wood will survey the history of attempts to find the earliest members of the genus Homo, including very recent and controversial additions. Learn More.
