Email: Simultaneously the go-to tool of our workday and the bane of our existence. We use it to communicate with co-workers, sponsors, friends and family, but it’s a narrow-bandwidth form of human communication fraught with confusion and ripe with misunderstanding and misinterpretation. So how can we use this simple ubiquitous communication channel for more effective message delivery?
CPA Media Relations Manager Chris Kramer will explain how to get the most out of your email communication when he presents, “Your Email Stinks. Here’s Why” at the next JumpStart meeting, Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018. The informal gathering will begin at 2 p.m. in Building 201, Room 190 A/B, just off the main lobby.
The presentation will cover:
- The history of misunderstanding
- What not to say and when not to say it
- When to CC (and when not to)
- Subject lines – the forgotten part of the email
- Attachment disorders
- Crossing the cultural divide
- Paralinguistic compensators (e.g. the “smiley face”)
- Special rules for Argonne folks
The JumpStart series is a friendly, informal forum for employees to develop new tools and knowledge that will enable individual and collective success — to help them do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.
Meetings will include 30 to 45 minutes of presentation followed by Q&A. When available, presentation materials will be made available on the JumpStart website on Inside Argonne.
