Argonne policy prohibits any mobile communication usage, including texting and making phone calls, while driving on the site. Hands-free mobile communication is also prohibited. Argonne’s Protective Force will issue tickets to drivers found in violation.
This policy is in place to protect the site’s many pedestrians, bicyclists and other drivers.
“All individuals operating vehicles on the Argonne site, including motorcycles, scooters, motor-driven cycles, bicycles, and all other wheeled activity, are prohibited from using mobile communications devices (for example, a two-way radio, cell phone, or hands-free device) while driving, for any purpose.
In addition, Argonne employees are prohibited from using mobile communications devices for any employment-related purpose, or using an Argonne-supplied communications device, while they are driving vehicles off the Argonne site.
Use of mobile communications is also prohibited while driving government vehicles on or off site.”
Employees stopped by the Protective Force should stay in their vehicles and have their driver’s licenses and Argonne or DOE badges ready to present to the officer. Consequences for violations can include disciplinary actions, including termination for multiple offenses.
