The next IT maintenance weekend will start at 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24, and end at 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018.

The planned activities for the weekend include the following:

Saturday, Aug. 25, 6 a.m. – 8 a.m.

  • Cloud applications intermittent connectivity from onsite users to cloud applications due to border router work

Saturday, Aug. 25, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

  • Intermittent wireless connectivity throughout Argonne. For those using Argonne wireless LAN and VPN at the same time, the client will drop the VPN session until the Access Point (AP) reboot is complete. The work will be accomplished in controlled manner starting in the morning with the 300 area and finally, ending in the 200 area (includes Outdoor Wireless AP’s and DC Office) in the afternoon. Onsite Argonne users using wireless and LAN will also lose wireless connectivity during the AP reboot. To avoid disconnection, instead of wireless, the onsite users may use a docking station or connect directly to a live LAN port. The maintenance does not affect Building 360 (Argonne Guest House), Building 402 (Conference Center) the APS LOM, the APS ring, servers or VPN.

  • Dash/Citrix – intermittent connectivity
  • SQL applications – intermittent connectivity

Background

Business and Information Systems (BIS) recognizes that the reliability and performance of laboratory informational technology (IT) resources are essential to our ability to carry out our scientific mission.

Like the rest of the laboratory infrastructure, these systems require periodic maintenance, replacement and upgrades. To meet the goal of providing secure and reliable IT systems, BIS schedules four maintenance weekends each year.

During these maintenance weekends, many of the services (e.g., email, wired and wireless networking, business applications, etc.) provided by BIS may be affected, and there should be no expectation that any IT services will be available.
