A child in Virginia suffered second-degree burns after a day at the beach, even after his mother applied 50-SPF sunscreen multiple times throughout the day. This incident has attracted national attention and is prompting many to ask whether sunscreens are really as safe as we think they are.

It’s important to know what to look for in your sunscreen so you can make an informed decision on what’s most appropriate to use. Your day’s activities can be a factor in this. This information and safety share is courtesy of Christina Perez (ESQ).

Please print and share this information with your colleagues and/or staff.

Beginning each meeting with a safety share is a great way to break the ice, begin team building from the onset of meetings and keep safety at the forefront of our minds each and every day.

The Safety Share Library is binned by topic area, providing a variety of resources for your convenience.

All employees, groups and divisions are encouraged to submit safety shares for inclusion in the library. Submission details are available on Inside Argonne.

Each month a safety share submitted by an individual will be selected by Environment, Safety and Quality Assurance to receive a Spot Award for demonstrated safety leadership. The Spot Award program offers three award levels: gold ($100), silver ($50) and bronze ($25).
